Fur-ever is dedicated to revolutionizing the pet adoption process in India by fostering a culture of compassion and responsible pet ownership. It aims to streamline the adoption process and make it more accessible and efficient, ultimately reducing the number of stray animals on the streets and creating a more humane and sustainable future for all.
THE CHALLENGES
Inefficient
Adoption Process.
Our challenge lies in the fragmented and inefficient pet adoption process in India. Potential adopters struggle to find suitable pets, pet owners find it difficult to rehome their animals, and there's a lack of education and community support for new pet parents. This results in a high number of stray animals and unwanted surrenders.
81.2 million dogs, cats and cows are either homeless on the streets, or living in shelters that do not have adequate resources to take care of them.

OUR APPROACH
Changing the
game.
Along with looking at the existing pet adoption process, we considered why people rather shop and not adopt. Our journey began by diving into India’s pet adoption landscape. We spoke with shelter workers, potential adopters, and current pet owners to uncover frustrations, bottlenecks, and untapped opportunities.
Interviews with adopters highlighted the emotional hesitation — many didn’t feel ready to take on pet ownership. Owners trying to rehome their pets described their struggles with finding trustworthy adopters.
Challenges and
Limitations.
Fragmented Adoption Process: Potential adopters find it difficult to discover suitable pets, as there is no streamlined platform for shelters to showcase available animals.
Rehoming Difficulties: Pet owners who can no longer care for their pets struggle to find reliable new homes, leading to unwanted surrenders.
Lack of Education for First-time Pet Owners: Many potential adopters feel uncertain about adopting due to a lack of information and guidance on pet care.
Limited Community Engagement: The adoption process often feels isolating, without a community to share experiences or guide new adopters.
During our research, we personally witnessed the challenges faced by stray animals in need of immediate assistance. In one instance, we encountered an injured dog on the roadside. Despite our attempts to contact local animal welfare organizations, we experienced a frustratingly long wait time before receiving a response. This firsthand experience highlighted the urgent need for more efficient and accessible emergency response systems for stray animals in India.
OUR DESIGN
Bridging the gap.
To address the challenges we discovered, we designed Fur-ever as a centralized and comprehensive online platform where users can browse adoptable animals, learn about the adoption process, connect with shelters and help stray animals in need. We also aimed to create a sustainable community of pet parents and further encourage adoption by gamifying their experiences.
Our tailored
features.
Pet Wishlist: Users can specify their preferred pet types (breed, age, size, etc.) and receive notifications when matching pets are available for adoption, making it more desirable to adopt rather than buy.
Rehome a Pet: A structured process where current pet owners can safely list their pets for adoption, connecting them to verified adopters and reducing the emotional stress of finding a good home.
Help Guides for First-time Pet Parents: Informative, digestible guides tailored to help new pet parents with feeding, training, and healthcare, boosting confidence in adoption.
Social Community Integration: A space for users to share success stories, follow shelter updates, and engage with like-minded adopters, fostering a sense of belonging and support.
SOS Feature for Strays: A rapid-response tool that lets users report strays in need, instantly connecting them with nearby shelters and rescue organizations.
Fostering
adoptive through
incentives.
We believe that partnering with pet shops and animal activist groups can significantly enhance the adoption process and encourage more people to adopt stray animals. By offering incentives and creating a sense of community, we can reinforce the positive behavior of adopting actively.
To further foster a sense of pet ownership and engagement, we plan to create personalized avatars of adopters and their pets. These avatars can be used to create free WhatsApp stickers, allowing users to share their furry friends with their loved ones and express their joy of pet ownership.
By incorporating these playful elements, we aim to induce a stronger connection between adopters and their pets, ultimately motivating them to continue advocating for animal welfare and inspiring others to do the same.
